Food Freedom day is the day on which the average Canadian disposable income (income after taxes) earned by this date is sufficient to pay for him or her pay their food bill for the year of 2009. That is nine days later than in 2008 for Canada, and about 11.7% of the year. According to the article, Japan spends 35.7% more. That would mean that we will reach Food Freedom Day here on June 24. That's much later in the year than I could have imagined.
